Thomas W. Bauer, MD, PhD
Biography: Dr. Bauer received MD and PhD degrees from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, then completed an Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has been a member of the staff at Cleveland Clinic since 1983 where he specializes in orthopedic pathology, especially orthopedic biomaterials. He is also the Medical Director of ePathology and of the Cleveland Clinic Central Biorepository. He has given more than 200 external invited lectures, has more than 230 peer-review publications, and is a consultant to several companies primarily in the field of orthopedic devices and therapeutics. He has served as a voting member on advisory panels in two different branches of the FDA and he is the Deputy Editor for Research for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. Recent interests include optimum laboratory testing to diagnose orthopedic infections and the use of digital imaging techniques for primary and consultation diagnosis.
