Sumie Edwards, MLS (ASCP) CM

Digital Pathology Project Manager, ARUP

Sumie is a seasoned project manager who has facilitated decision-making and portfolio development with a cross-functional team of Medical, Operational and IT leadership groups; vetting Slide Management Systems (SMS), scanner vendor options and aligning resource needs in order to meet the business goals of ARUP.

Prior to her role helping develop Digital Pathology, Sumie served 7 years as a Quality Specialist; putting her technical knowledge to use for the Anatomic Pathology division and applying LSS DMAIC process tools. From her Quality position, she mentored the development of data sets that serve to guide both staff and management in areas for improvement; one such improvement resulted in the company-wide implementation of a Medical Director Competency software application.

Sumie has been with ARUP for more than 17 years, starting her ARUP career in Molecular Infectious Diseases, but spending the majority of her “bench time” in a Molecular Oncology laboratory working alongside management in performing and improving test systems and departmental workflows.

Sumie is a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist since 2009.
