Ali Gabali, MD, PhD

Dr. Ali Gabali, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor of pathology and a recognized leader in the field of hematopathology. With an M.D. from Dammam University and a Ph.D. in immunology from Rush University, Dr. Gabali has built a notable career that spans both clinical excellence and academic contributions. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Case Western Reserve University and a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Michigan. His expertise encompasses hematopathology, flow cytometry, and laboratory management. Dr. Gabali currently holds the position of Chairman of Pathology and Chief Medical Director of Pathology and Laboratory for McLaren Pathology Group, where he is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive pathology services across McLaren’s extensive hospital network. In this leadership role, Dr. Gabali directs both clinical operations and laboratory management, ensuring the highest standards of diagnostic accuracy and patient care. He plays a crucial role in centralizing pathology services, optimizing efficiency, and supporting medical technologists and staff, contributing to the advancement of the group’s strategic vision.In addition to his clinical and administrative duties, Dr. Gabali remains involved in research and education, mentoring the next generation of pathologists through his role at Wayne State University. His work in the pathology community, particularly in the hematopathology division and flow cytometry laboratory, continues to set a high standard for the field, making him a respected figure in both academic and clinical circles.

Roche Morning Workshop - Unlocking Interoperability in Digital Pathology: An Interactive Forum

Founded by pathologist Tom Grogan MD, 2025 marks Roche Diagnostics' tissue franchise Ventana Medical Systems (VMS) 40th anniversary! In this interactive workshop, we celebrate VMS's impact on anatomic pathology and how Roche's product roadmap will lead pathology laboratories into the digital future. Keith Wharton, MD PhD, Roche Diagnostics, will review the state of interoperability in digital pathology, with emphasis on how digital pathology can be reimagined as an intrinsic design element at the center of intelligent diagnostic systems of the future. Ali Gabali MD PhD, McLaren Health, will share how digital pathology has unlocked new collaboration and enabled better patient care. We will conclude with a panel discussion including Dr. Gabali and Luke Benko, International Business Leader, Roche Diagnostics, led by Dr. Wharton. This workshop is open to all pathologists, lab leaders, and IT professionals interested in learning more about key considerations of interoperability in digital pathology.
