Dr. Priti Lal is a Professor of Pathology and serves as Director of the GU Subdivision of the Department of Pathology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Her work at the University of Pennsylvania is multifaceted. She enjoys the intensity of clinical work and derives great satisfaction from teaching trainees and mentoring them as they progress toward independent practice. As service chief, she mentors junior faculty through in-person meetings and via the thrice-weekly GU service working conference. To give back to the broader pathology community, she volunteers her time for various committees at USCAP, GUPS, and DPA. Through these professional societies, she enjoys supporting international medical students, pathology trainees, and pathologists through teaching and in-person observerships within the department. In addition, she has a keen interest in cancer biology and pathogenesis and actively collaborates as the lead pathologist on clinical trials, basic science, and AI-based research efforts. Her collaborative research focuses on the use of high-throughput technologies to investigate cancer biomarkers in genitourinary malignancies, with particular emphasis on molecular epidemiology, the tumor immune microenvironment, and the application of AI to improve prognostication in prostate and bladder cancer.
