Integrated Diagnostics: Pathology at the Crossroads of Data

   Sat, Oct 17
   10:45AM - 11:45AM PT
  Seaport Ballroom A-D

As diagnosis increasingly draws on an increasingly complex data environment, the pathologist's role is primed to evolve. This panel explores what it means to integrate digital pathology and AI-diagnostic support with radiology, lab and chemistry data, genomics, and EHR/clinical notes — and what it takes to do that responsibly. Panelists will examine the opportunity of the pathologist as data integrator, synthesizing multimodal inputs into a single, well-informed diagnosis, alongside the key cautions that come with it: data quality and standardization across modalities, unresolved questions of liability and accountability, reimbursement gaps for cross-modal work, and clinician adoption challenges as workflows and roles shift. Drawing on perspectives spanning academic pathology, translational and digital biology consulting, pathology innovation leadership, and the patient experience of pathology itself, the discussion will trace the evolution of the pathologist's role — from utility and pitfalls to the totality of health data flow — and what it means for practice going forward.
