Submission Requirements

To be considered for an oral presentation, please ensure your submission meets the following criteria:

Proposal Guidelines

  • Sentence Case: Only capitalize the first word, proper nouns, and acronyms (e.g., A study of digital pathology in clinical trials). Do not use all caps for titles or author names.
  • Title: Maximum 100 characters, including spaces. Be concise and informative. Please avoid abbreviations and formulae unless they are established and widely understood, e.g. DNA.
  • Length: Maximum 2,000 characters, including spaces.
  • Structure: Introduction/Background, Methods/Design, Results, and Conclusion/Discussion.
  • Content:
    • Abstracts must be able to stand alone.
    • Avoid references (cite only author/year if essential).
    • Define non-standard abbreviations at first mention.
    • Remove any text formatting, unless it has related scientific significance.
    • Use spell-check and grammar-check functions to avoid errors.
  • Images, Figures, & Tables:
    • Use only when necessary; avoid duplicating data already presented in the text
    • High-resolution .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .gif, or .bmp files are accepted.
    • Number all visuals consecutively and ensure every figure or table is cited within the body of the text.
    • Provide a caption for each element and place any supplementary notes directly below the table body.
  • Objectives: 1-3 learning objectives (maximum 125 characters each, including spaces)
  • Originality: Submissions based on previously published work are only permitted if they represent a significant further progression of the research. Otherwise, work must not be published in a peer-reviewed journal prior to the conference dates.

  • Embargo: Authors agree to maintain a data embargo until the conclusion of PathVisions26 (October 18, 2026). If your work is accepted by another publication after your PV26 proposal is accepted, you must notify the DPA and request that the other journal's publication date be set for after the conference.

Tips for a Successful Submission

The 2026 theme challenges us to look beyond the "what" of technology and focus on the "why"—the patients and communities we serve. Use these tips to ensure your proposals and presentations foster a diverse and purposeful future for digital pathology.

  • Embrace Diversity: Specify the diversity of your datasets (ethnicities, rare diseases, or low-resource settings) and the perspectives of your stakeholders (clinicians, researchers, trainees, patients, patient advocates, industry partners, academicians, etc.).

  • Bridge the Gap: Address the scalability of your research for community labs or developing economies.

  • Collaborate: Curate speaking teams with a mix of genders, geographies, and career stages.

  • Real-World Impact: Discuss how your innovation impacts "people" (e.g., reducing pathologist burnout or streamlining lab workflows) and improves patient care (e.g., addressing timely precision patient care).

  • Unify via Standards: Frame technical innovations within industry standards like DICOM or IHE to ensure interoperability.

Review & Selection Process

To ensure the highest quality of scientific and operational programming, all proposals undergo a rigorous, multi-stage evaluation process.

  • Peer Review: Every submission is subject to a blind review by the PathVisions26 Program Committee. To ensure an impartial evaluation, reviewers do not have access to author names or affiliations during the scoring phase.
  • Evaluation Criteria: Proposals are scored on a scale of 1 (Poor) to 5 (Excellent) across the following key areas:
    • Interest: The relevance and appeal of the topic to the diverse PathVisions audience.
    • Cutting Edge: The degree to which the work represents "Innovation with Purpose" and state-of-the-art use of technology.
    • Impact on the Field: The potential for the research or case study to advance digital pathology, improve patient care, or solve real-world operational challenges. Submissions should demonstrate scalability, technical inclusion, and a clear, positive impact on patient care.
    • Quality of Approach: The technical soundness, methodology, and clarity of the results and conclusions.

Holistic Committee Review: In addition to numerical scores, the committee considers the following factors to curate the final program:

  • Program Diversity: Focusing on topic diversity and global representation to ensure a well-rounded educational program.
  • Clarity: Abstracts must be well-organized, concisely written, and strictly adhere to all formatting requirements.

Final Selection: The Program Committee reserves the right to select proposals that best complement the overall educational goals and the conference theme.

Travel Awards

  • Trainee Travel Award: The application is included within the oral/poster submission form and must be submitted concurrently.
  • Developing Country Travel Award: A separate application is required. Proposal submission is not required for this award. If you wish to be considered for both a travel grant and a presentation, you must submit both forms separately.
